Sheriff Makes Waves with Boater Safety

It’s That Time of Year Again . . . New York State Sheriffs’ Association President and Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple (pictured) kicks off a press event near the Hudson River in Albany to mark the start of boating season across New York State and in observance of National Safe Boating Week, held May 20 – 26 this year. Sheriff Apple noted from U.S. Coast Guard statistics that drowning was the reported cause of death in four out of every five recreational boating fatalities in 2021, with 83% of those who drowned not wearing life jackets. He also reported that all operators of motorized vessels, regardless of age, will be required to have a boating safety certificate by January 2025.
