Blue Envelope Program

The Blue Envelope Program is a free public service program administered by the New York State Sheriffs’ Association.

The goal of this program is to assist law enforcement officers in recognizing and adapting their approach when interacting with a driver with autism, while providing such drivers with a tool to reduce anxiety and encourage preparedness.

How it Works

Participating New York State sheriffs’ offices and advocacy organizations are able to provide a Blue Envelope to drivers with autism. In this envelope, the driver places the following essential documents:

  • driver’s license
  • vehicle registration
  • contact card

The Blue envelope should be placed in an easily accessible and visible location within the vehicle.
