Sheriff Vincent DeMarco began his distinguished career as a Suffolk County Deputy Sheriff in 1994. Sheriff DeMarco was sworn into office on January 1, 2006, and became the first uniformed member of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office to be elected Sheriff.

Sheriff DeMarco earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from St. John’s University in 1991.

While serving as a Deputy Sheriff, Sheriff DeMarco was recognized for his commitment to law enforcement multiple times, including being honored for making the most arrests in a year.
The innovative use of technology has been a hallmark of Sheriff DeMarco’s tenure and the results have been impressive. Technological improvements and policy initiatives have made Suffolk County roadways safer, while saving the county’s taxpayers millions of dollars since he took office in 2006. Sheriff DeMarco has also made the rehabilitation of incarcerated youth a priority of his work and founded the Youth Re-entry Task Force in 2011. The youthful jail population has been cut by more than 75% since he began the initiative.
Sheriff Vincent DeMarco is a lifelong resident of Suffolk County. He is married and the father of two children.
