Sheriff Moss joined the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office in 1989 as a Special Deputy. Later that year he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Sheriff and served in that position until 1994 when he was promoted to Investigator. While assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Sheriff Moss attained the rank of Sergeant. He left CID to become a Lieutenant in the Road Patrol Division in 2001. In May of 2005, Sheriff Moss was transferred back to CID where he became the Division Commander. In 2005, Sheriff Moss was elected to a four-year term, replacing retired Sheriff Charles D. W. Houper.
Education / Training
Sheriff Moss possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from SUNY Empire College and is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 200.
Honors and Achievements
Sheriff Moss serves as the Chairman of the Chemung County Traffic Safety Board, as well as the President of the Chemung County Family Services Executive Board. Prior to being elected, Sheriff Moss served on the agency’s Special Services Unit, Honor Guard; was president of the Chemung County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association; and was a New York State certified K-9 handler.
In his spare time, Sheriff Moss enjoys spending time with his family, as well as hunting and fishing.
